Toufic Baaklini, the President of In Defense of Christians, is scheduled to be a panelist at the 2021 March for the Martyrs in Washington, D.C.
In Defense of Christians is a nonprofit that advocates for the religious freedoms and human rights of Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East, “preserving and protecting Christians and Christianity in the Middle East, where it all began.” In Defense of Christians lobbies to pass resolutions in Congress that will provide aid while encouraging American Christians to use their voice by signing petitions and writing to their Congress members. In Defense of Christians also hosts an annual Ecumenical Prayer Service, which gathers the patriarchs and leaders of various Christian traditions to pray for the persecuted in the Middle East.
In addition to In Defense of Christians’ work, Baaklini has testified before Congress and met with the National Security Council and the State Department. He has also written extensively about the Middle East, Christianity, and religious freedom in publications such as Providence Magazine, The Hill, and the Wall Street Journal.
In an interview with EWTN, Baaklini commented on the necessity of standing with the persecuted:
“We need to help [persecuted Christians] stay in their land, whatever it takes–if it’s in the Middle East or anywhere else.”
“If any Christian is hurt anywhere in the world, the whole world should hear about it from our people.”
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, the people have to hear our voices. And the way to get our voices heard in many ways you can call your congressman, you can call your senator, and tell them what’s happening to our people. We want [persecuted Christians] to feel that we are with them”
